South Korea unemployment rate unchanged in Sept
[Seoul] South Korea's unemployment rate was unchanged in September, with young people still struggling in a tough job market, government data showed Wednesday.
The seasonally adjusted jobless rate stood at 3.5 per cent, showing no movement from the August figure, Statistics Korea said.
The unemployment rate for those aged 15-29 was 8.5 per cent in September, slightly up from 8.4 per cent the month before and 7.7 per cent July.
"Job cuts grew in agriculture and fisheries as wholesale and retail businesses, health and social affairs created less jobs than a month earlier," a senior Statistics Korea official, Sim Won-Bo, told journalists.
This year's September job data was drawn up after the Chuseok holidays, while last year's was collated before.
Temporary jobs tend to be created before the holiday season begins and disappear in its wake. AFP
