Singapore shares end slow week on muted note
THE action may be in Asia but investors were mostly preoccupied by events across the globe this week, chief of which was the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting.
Their vigil seemed justified. While there was no surprise in the Fed's dovish stance, leaving its interest rates unchanged, traders were somewhat caught off guard by its signal on Wednesday of no increases in rates for the rest of the year. However, any fillip to the markets was short-lived.
Markets in Asia barely moved despite a minor Wall Street rally, with investors' attention shifting to next week's round of US-China trade talks.
