Volatility calls for caution, but opportunities still abound

Fund managers say that apart from the China Syndrome, high dividend yielding assets offer hope.

FUND managers sound caution over volatile markets this year, and multi-asset portfolios are likely to see more tactical shifts than in normal market conditions.

Says Sean Taylor of Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management: "We have to be very focused this year; it's not a big buy-and-hold year. We have to focus on selective investments, making sure that when we buy equities we buy the right ones. It's the same for fixed income because we need to keep quality up.

"We need to be much more tactical in terms of taking risk on and off.''
