GEM sparkles in latest world tour
The petite Hong Kong singer-songwriter with big lungs lives up to the tour's title as the "Queen of Hearts" in two of her biggest shows here over the weekend.
DENG Ziqi's meteoric rise to fame is nothing short of a fairytale. The Shanghai-born Hong Kong singer-songwriter, who is better known by her stage moniker GEM (Get Everybody Moving) released her self-titled debut in 2008 but stayed largely unknown outside of Hong Kong until she participated in mainland Chinese reality TV programme I Am a Singer in 2014.
Her girl-next-door appeal and impressive pipes captured everybody's imagination and even though she only emerged runner-up, GEM has gone on to become a bona fide star - a journey which was chronicled in her biographical rockumentary G-Force released earlier this year.
"The Chinese Taylor Swift", as she's nicknamed, was the only Asian musician to land on Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2016, following a No 11 placing on Forbes China Celebrity 100 list in 2015.
