My weekend
What people do, why and where as told to Cheah Ui-Hoon
Christopher Tan Writer, cookbook author and cooking instructor
I teach most Saturdays at The Kitchen Society, a small cooking school on Kim Yam Road, so that means I'm up pretty early to go marketing for fresh ingredients. If it's going to be a long session, I try to swing by Freshly Baked in Killiney Road to tar pau a BLT on crusty wholemeal bread, to sustain me.
After a class, I'm usually a little brain-dead and craving something brightly-flavoured to wake myself up. I often drop by Alakai Poké in Everton Park for some Hawaiian-style sashimi, salad and rice. Alakai's combos are true to the island original, thanks to Lon, the Hawaiian chef-owner.
