Turning the spotlight back on new directors
AFTER being the first Singaporean to win the prestigious Camera d'Or at Cannes and Best Film, Original Screenplay and New Director at the Golden Horse Awards in 2013 for his debut feature Ilo Ilo, Anthony Chen is paying it forward with his new film Distance.
As the omnibus feature's executive producer, the 30-year-old turns the spotlight on three award-winning young Asian directors - Xin Yukun, Tan Shijie and Sivaroj Kongsakul from mainland China, Singapore and Thailand respectively - whose works have impressed him.
The trio helm their own segments with Taiwanese heart-throb Chen Bo-lin(Blue Gate Crossing, Buddha Mountain) playing three different characters across the ambitious triptych.
