Disco king gets his groove back
WITH all the dance hits he's been churning out over the last four decades, it's no wonder disco king Nile Rodgers doesn't sleep much. "I get three hours, if I'm lucky; it's been like that since I was five," says the legendary guitarist-songwriter-producer and founder of Chic, the seventies funk band behind hits such as Everybody Dance (1977), Le Freak (1978), Good Times (1979) and more.
He will return to Singapore at the end of the year as part of the line-up for new music and arts festival Neon Lights, after he last performed here in 2013.
Speaking over the phone from his home in Connecticut last week, the 63-year-old admits he is a workaholic and shares that he always has music inside his head. "I can write any time and I have thousands and thousands (of unrecorded songs)," he claims.
