Sentosa Golf Club's player adoption drive
WHEN Singapore's No 1 amateur lady golfer Koh Sock Hwee tees off in next month's South-east Asian (SEA) Games at Sentosa Golf Club (SGC), she will be hoping that home ground advantage plays a part in her bringing home a medal.
"I've been very fortunate being able to play at Sentosa and becoming more familiar with the course," she says. "Being able to practise here means ultimately a lot more time to come up with our own game plan and be more familiar and comfortable with the course. Mentally, it will be better for us as a team before the SEA Games."
Ms Koh, 26, is one of a trio of local amateur golfers who are part of SGC's year-long "adoption" programme, although the club has sponsored her since 2013. This year, two more joined her in the programme, which provides them with complimentary unlimited practice on both the Serapong and Tanjong courses and use of the club's golfing facilities until the end of 2015. The other two amateurs are Jen Goh, 20, who is also part of the national squad participating in this year's SEA Games, and Dane Ang, 17, who is a member of the Singapore Golf Association's (SGA) Development Squad.
