Sing50's mission
SING50 is organised by The Business Times and The Straits Times to showcase 50 years of Singapore's rich musical heritage. The mega concert, which is the newspapers' contribution to Singapore's Jubilee celebrations, will feature memorable music and songs, as well as performers and composers who have made their mark in the music scene over the past 50 years in various languages and genres.
The event grew from the successful ChildAid concerts the two Singapore Press Holdings newspapers have organised annually for 10 years to celebrate, encourage and promote young performers and raise funds for two charities - The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.
The Sing50 organisers wanted the mega-concert to last for more than one night, to extend its reach into the community beyond this Jubilee year. This led to the setting up of the Sing50 Fund, a private sector initiative which aims to showcase the rich diversity of Singapore's musical heritage and develop a wider knowledge of and appreciation for Singapore's music and songs. This will be done through schools, performances and educational platforms.
