BT regional webinar to offer insights on investing in the Indonesian digital economy
South-east Asia is emerging as a serious player in the global tech field - and all eyes are on Indonesia. The region's largest economy boasts of several homegrown tech giants, and is now one of Asia's most dynamic startup ecosystems.
By 2025, Indonesia's digital economy could grow to US$124 billion in gross merchandise value, from US$44 billion last year, according to a study by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company. What growth trends should startup investors look out for? Which sectors will provide the greatest opportunities? And what does it take for startup founders to raise funds successfully?
The Business Times (BT), Singapore will be hosting a regional webinar "Investing in the Indonesian Digital Economy" at 11am on Aug 31. Helmed by the team behind BT's award-winning startup portal Garage, the panel will feature:
John Riady, chairman of Siloam Hospitals & managing partner at Venturra Capital;
Jonathan Sudharta, CEO & co-founder of Halodoc;
Willson Cuaca, co-founder & managing partner, East Ventures; and
Jeffrey Seah, partner, Asia Fund, Quest Ventures
The panel discussion will be moderated by BT's tech journalist Claudia Chong.
"Any investor serious about venture deals in South-east Asia would have Indonesia in their strategy," said Ms Chong. "The fast-growing Indonesian tech sector is booming and there's tremendous buzz among investors and market players as exits beckon for some of the more mature startups.
"The speakers we have lined up - representing both startups and venture capital in Indonesia and Singapore - will help us make sense of what's happening and educate us about the opportunities in Indonesia's digital sector."
Attendees can expect deep insights into the latest trends in the Indonesian digital landscape and understand more about the thriving startup scene driven by enterprising startup founders and venture capitalists.
The Business Times' editor Wong Wei Kong said: "This regional webinar marks the first time in recent years where BT is making a concerted effort to reach out to new audiences beyond Singapore.
"We hope to connect with them better over time as we strengthen our coverage in key areas such as technology reporting and develop content in new formats. Webinars are a key part of our audience strategy as we ramp up engagement as part of our regionalisation efforts."
