The Zen of renovating
Keeping the big picture in mind and not sweating the small stuff is key when it comes to a home makeover.
I REMEMBER feeling physically and mentally tired after choosing all the lights of the home I was renovating. I was so tired I bumped into a motorcycle while reversing out of the parking lot, incurring unnecessary expense. The science of decision-making has come a long way since: today, we know that making decisions is tiring. So tiring in fact that some Silicon Valley types wear only one colour and one type of outfit throughout the year - so that they do not have to make decisions as to what to wear.
Renovating for a home requires a lot of decisions. How many milimetres thicker should the base of a shelving be given that you intend to have it on display? Where precisely should pendant lights hang over the dining table? Every decision puts on a cognitive load. Make a bunch of decisions and the brain tires. Which spells bad decisions.
The aim of this article is to help you think more clearly when when you renovate your home.
