80s hits, humour bring house down
When it comes to musicals, nostalgia is always a safe bet with retro jukebox musicals such as Mama Mia (featuring the hits of ABBA), Jersey Boys (Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) and We Will Rock You (Queen) all going on to become hits that continue to pack them in on Broadway and West End for years.
Adding to that list is Rock of Ages, which has played over 2,000 times (and counting) since opening half a decade ago in New York.
Featuring over 30 radio-friendly headbangers and power ballads from the eighties, its success has followed it onto the big screen, where it became a hit 2012 movie starring Tom Cruise, Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin.
