IN a week where the music world is still reeling from the unexpected death of ex-Stone Temple Pilots frontman and vocalist Scott Weiland, veteran rocker Glenn Hughes considers himself lucky to be alive.
"Let's just say you're talking to someone who, for over 25 years, was overserved at the bar," states the English bassist and singer who has had his fair share of substance abuse-related problems documented in the press as well as his best-selling autobiography, over the phone.
Known for his illustrious stints with heavy metal legends Deep Purple and Black Sabbath - enough to earn Hughes the title "the Voice of Rock" - as well as introducing funk and soul elements to the rock genre, the 64-year-old is currently on a solo world tour with guitarist Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio) and drummer Pontus Engborg. The trio will play Singapore on Friday.
