Canny Humour
Rishi Budhrani, one of Singapore's best standup comics, is making his solo debut with Cannot Means Cannot, a show that pokes good-natured fun at Singapore's reputation as a supposedly strict and straight-laced city. Budhrani says "cannot means cannot" is a typical rejoinder given by parents, bosses and bureaucrats when asked: "Why cannot?" His show, which is the curtain raiser for the Singapore Comedy Fringe Festival, parses these three words to get to the bottom of the Singapore culture and psyche. Cannot Means Cannot takes place at the Blu Jaz Cafe, 11 Bali Lane, on 26 April at 8.30pm. Tickets at S$25 from CannotMeansCannot.com
COMPILED BY DYLAN TAN, TAY SUAN CHIANG, HELMI YUSOF, RACHEL LOI
