A cleaner alternative
The Peugeot 508 gets an updated engine for cleaner emissions and higher CEVS rebate.
SOME mid-life makeovers promise fresher styling and new features. The Peugeot 508 adds an extra S$10,000 - as a CEVS rebate. The facelifted sedan from the French carmaker is being introduced with a heavily revised Euro 6 engine. Upgraded from Euro 5, this 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit features a twin-scroll turbo and continuously variable inlet valve timing to produce higher power of 163 hp from 156 hp before.
Together with a more efficient six-speed automatic transmission, it is also cleaner. Carbon dioxide emissions are now 134 g/km, down from 164 g/km previously, which means it currently attracts a CEVS rebate of S$10,000 from zero previously. On the outside, the Peugeot 508's wheel size is reduced from 18 inches to 17 with energy-saving rubber.
The styling is also tweaked for more chiselled lines and a longer nose with a wider front grille. There are new headlamp clusters with the LED driving lights relocated down to the front bumper. The tail lamps are also new. Inside, the cabin looks largely the same but the centre console now features a seven-inch touchscreen with factory-fitted navigation and reverse camera.
