The weekend edition of The Business Times went through an overhaul last Saturday, October 8, revealing its own luxury lifestyle magazine, called Weekend.

In our debut cover story, State of Cool, we took a look at how Singapore stacks up against New York, Paris, London and other great cities of the world.

Readers wrote in to us, sharing their views on the new BT Weekend, and we were heartened by the feedback.

In response to our first cover story, here's what our readers had to say:

"As a restaurateur I can tell you first hand that Singapore certainly is an exciting market to be in. Singaporeans love their food. However, Singapore still has a way to go when it comes to hospitality in the Western sense. Cities like London, Tokyo, and New York have a long lineage of hospitality. These cities support and understand the industry in a way that Singapore doesn’t as yet. Labour laws here are extremely restrictive, and Singaporeans (in general) don’t see work in hospitality as a career - to be served, rather than serve, as it were." - Richard James Letch, 37, restaurant owner/operator.

"Overall, a good read with high-end products for him and her spread across your advertising pages... Your biz clients readership, I feel certain, would be interested in such vacation stories as such stories inspire and help plan for the next holiday with the family." - Richard Ng, 69, retiree.

"I read this article. I think, in my opinion, it is important to be yourself even as we face challenges and trends everyday. I know it is difficult but one has to be optimistic." - Grace Oh, 28, graduate student at SAA Global.
