Capitol Theatre Comes Alive With Cuban Music Legend
The Buena Vista Social Club songstress Omara Portuondo is set to perform at the historic theatre next to The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore
BUILT IN 1929 by M.A. Namazie, an early Singapore pioneer of Persian origin, the historical neo-classical Capitol Theatre is an architectural and lifestyle gem. The former cinema reopened in 2015 after a major refurbishment. Its iconic exterior is marked by retro neon signage, shining brightly and beckoning visitors to enter the piazza and expansive light-filled foyer. This well-restored building has direct access to the adjacent The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore as well as a host of dining and shopping options at Capitol Piazza.
When inside the theatre, sink into one of the plush seats and take in the lofty ceiling's dome-shaped grandeur. The 980-seater also boasts Southeast Asia's first advanced rotational floor system, state-of-the-art audio and visual systems, and one of the region's largest single screens. Today the multi-functional venue also hosts glamourous red carpet premieres and fashion shows.
Guests can soak in the charming atmosphere of Capitol Theatre while enjoying plays, musicals and world-class performances. A top act to look forward to is the upcoming show by Cuba's iconic vocalist Omara Portuondo, on May 22.
