Fresh from playing festivals in Taiwan, Japan and Malaysia, singer-songwriter Charlie Lim returns to play a homecoming gig this weekend to cap off an eventful 2019. His latest album Check-Hook has accumulated more than 1.5 million streams on Spotify and Lim is also featured on the cover of the streaming platform's Singapore Top Acts playlist. Ahead of the show, check out the bespectacled guitarist's new EP, Check-Hook: Remixes - Wave 1, where the likes of Melbourne-based singer-songwriter-producer Yeo, Manila-born electronic pop artiste B.P. Valenzuela, local dance collective Darker Than Wax and more breathe new life into the original tracks. Wave 2, out in January, will include additional remixes from Taku of Japanese hip-hop group M-Flo, and homegrown names like Evanturetime and Vandetta. "It's a little anniversary celebration for the record... as if the songs have been given a new coat of paint," quips Lim, on the two-part release.
Check-Hook Remixes: The Gathering featuring Charlie Lim (solo), Linying (solo), Kiat (Syndicate) and Funk Bstrd & Kaye (Darker Than Wax) takes place at White Label Records on Dec 21 from 7pm. Free admission.
