Works with Winds

Published Fri, Mar 17, 2017 · 09:50 PM

The Philharmonic Chamber Winds' latest show From an Invalid's Workshop takes its title from one of Richard Strauss' works written for winds. The piece will be performed alongside three Kurt Weill compositions written with playwright Bertolt Brecht: Alabama Song, Surabaya Johnny, and Mack the Knife. The songs have been covered through the decades by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, David Bowie, Robbie Williams, The Doors, Bobby Darin and Bette Midler; and they will be sung by Australian vocalist Sandra Wolf. Rounding up the progamme is Artist's Life, Op. 316 by the Waltz King himself, Johann Strauss II. The performance is at the Esplanade Recital Studio on March 18 at 7.30pm. Book tickets at S$15 by e-mailing jodie@philharmonicwinds.org.
