A Nutcracker X'mas
If there was any ballet associated with the festive season, it would undeniably be The Nutcracker, based on the story by E.T.A Hoffman. From Dec 7 to 11, the Singapore Dance Theatre will stage their version of this iconic performance at The Esplanade, with staging and choreography by its artistic director Janek Schergen.Go back in time to pre-World War One, on an adventure with the story's protagonist Clara who receives a German Nutcracker doll at Christmas, and is transported into the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets, set to a score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This SDT production was inspired by the company's first full-length story ballet - The Nutcracker - in 1992, which was choreographed by one of its two co-founders, Anthony Then.
