On The Prowl
Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS is clawing its way back to Singapore. The stage production opens next week, ahead of Tom Hopper's big screen adaptation during Christmas. Based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats and featuring the pop hit 'Memory', CATS is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, lasting 21 and 18 years respectively. It takes nine full shipping containers to tour the production around the globe and it has visited 20 cities so far this year. Props include 116 wigs and 226 costumes; and the cast goes through 45 pairs of jazz shoes per week. The average time an actor takes to apply his or her make-up is 60 minutes and 256 rechargeable batteries are used to power the microphones to make sure the audience hears every meow - oops, note - loud and clear.
CATS opens at Sands Theatre on Dec 17 and runs till Jan 5. Tickets from S$50 from Sistic
