In Record Time
Leading luxury watch makers are putting their valuable pieces on the auction block for charity.
PATEK PHILIPPE IS likely to set a new record price at this year's biennial Only Watch charity auction, with a contribution valued at around S$3 million.
The family-owned Swiss luxury watch manufacturer is putting up a grand-sonnerie wristwatch with 20 complications for the November auction in Geneva, to raise money for medical research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic muscular disease that afflicts one in 3000 male babies.
The Grandmaster Chime Ref 6300A-010 in stainless steel - rare for a Patek timepiece - and boasting two dials, is valued at CHF2.0 - 2.5 million (S$2.7 - 3.4 million), more than Patek's previous auction contributions.
