New Look Watches
On the sidelines of the recent SIHH watch show were brands unveiling their own models at the same time. Here's a sample to look out for
01 CHRISTOPHE CLARET Angelico
While visually attractive, the real beauty of this watch lies in its technically impressive heart. Within its 45.5mm diameter case (red gold or titanium), is a gravity-defying tourbillon combined, for the first time, with a long detent escapement and a cable-type fusee transmission system. The former is regarded as the ultimate in chronometric precision, but it's very sensitive to lateral knocks - hence lacking the sturdiness required for wearing on the wrist. Christophe Claret found a way around it by fitting an anti-pivot mechanism to work with a safety finger to prevent the detent from turning over. For greater efficiency, the double mainspring in the watch is connected to a cable-type fusee transmission system, instead of the traditional chain fusee. This increases as well as regulates the power reserve precisely. Angelico is limited to 10 pieces in red gold or titanium - and it has an extended warranty of five years.
