Toast to fine Italian Barolo
One of the most respected names, Bruno Giacosa, never fails to please, writes NK YONG
Gusto Italiano's wine dinner at La Strada on Sept 16, featuring the wines of Bruno Giacosa was fully sold out as expected. The name Bruno Giacosa, one of the most respected of Barolo producers, ensured that it would be. We hardly drink nor even see bottles of Barolo on the dining table. Barolo is long regarded as the King of Italian wines, so this wine dinner provided a great opportunity to rectify that gap.
Barbaresco Santo Stefano 2008, DOCG, Bruno Giacosa
Mahogany colour with reddish tints. Lovely classic light bouquet, with a light touch of roses. Light texture, still quite tannic, medium ripeness. Still very young, 2008 was a good vintage in Piedmont. Will need more time.
