AFTER an embarrassing impeachment process that seemed to threaten his presidency, he was acquitted by a majority of Republicans in a gruelling trial in the US Senate.

A day earlier, President Donald Trump delivered a State of the Union (SOTU) address that sounded very "presidential" and celebrated an American economy that has been booming in recent years.

And with the Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives tearing up a copy of his speech at the end of his televised SOTU address, looking like a sore loser, and the Democrats demonstrating that they cannot even manage the puny presidential caucuses in tiny Iowa, President Trump suddenly looked like a winner, riding towards re-election in November.
