Impeachment IV: A national tragedy
Not even one Republican lawmaker is likely to join the Democrats in impeaching President Trump in the House and a clear Republican majority in the Senate ensures he will not be convicted there
AMERICAN political leaders tend to imagine themselves to be the successors to the Founding Fathers and insist that they are committed to protecting the Constitution of the United States that was signed by those legendary figures on Sept 17, 1787.
Indeed, not a day goes by without an American president or members of Congress quoting this or that article in the US Constitution to support a proposed legislation or policy.
Conservative lawmakers even maintain that they can divine the "intent" of Thomas Jefferson or James Madison when they crafted the document that symbolises the values that underpin the American republic. Apparently they hold daily séances with the Founding Fathers or receive brain waves from their graves.
