Is 'Deep State' out to oust President Trump?

IF you've been listening to conservative radio talk-show hosts who also happen to be Trumpists (many conservative journalists and pundits actually detest the current White House occupant) - such as Rush Limbaugh, Dick Morris and Mark Levin, not to mention Alex Jones, President Donald Trump's favourite conspiracy theorist - you would have to conclude that Washington is now in the midst of a political coup.

According to this narrative, members of the so-called Deep State (a reference to the heads of the US intelligence agencies and other federal government bureaucracies) have joined the political elites, including members of the Republican Establishment, and together with the liberal and Never-Trump opinion makers and the Mainstream Media (MSM) are trying to reverse the outcome of the 2016 presidential election and oust Mr Trump from power.

This is how it goes: Fearful that Mr Trump's pledge to drain the swamp in Washington would erode their ability to influence policy-making and could result in their removal from current positions of power, these political, bureaucratic and media elites have been leaking damaging information on Mr Trump to the press; and through legal and bureaucratic manoeuvres they have been engaged in a grand conspiracy that would force the president from office. It's not like all these individuals are holding daily meetings to coordinate their anti-Trump strategy. Instead, various acts of political and bureaucratic sabotage end up combining into a powerful force that even the most powerful man in the world would not be able to withstand.
