It's time the UN lead the fight against global warming
I REFER to "It's crunch time for climate negotiators in Paris" (BT, Dec 2).
The UN conference started on Monday and will last 12 days till Dec 11. It is my hope that the UN will use its US$10 billion Green Climate Fund (GCF) to mobilise an international, united and centralised organisation to research new energy sources that will address the need for potable water and clean energy to combat global warming and climate change.
Participants at the conference are being asked to make a pledge of at least US$100 billion every year from 2020 to pay for projects and technology to cut emissions. This cannot be the ultimate solution to combat global overheating effectively. Similarly, giving vulnerable nations more funds for adaptation to climate change cannot be the answer either.
