Will Trump be the master survivor on the back of a buoyant economy?

IT WAS not long ago when the conventional wisdom was that Donald Trump would be a one-term president and that, in fact, he probably would not serve a full term in office.

Indeed, Congressional Democrats have taken advantage of a series of scandals involving him, by employing the tools provided by the US Constitution to drive the president out of office.

First they counted on Special Counsel Robert Mueller to charge the president of colluding with the Russian government to subvert the outcome of the 2016 election, and when that exercise failed, they launched an impeachment process against the White House occupant, accusing him of abusing his power and committing high crimes and misdemeanours. But after the Republican-controlled US Senate moved to acquit the president of the charges against him, the only option that remains for the anti-Trump forces is to defeat him in the election in November.
