How ICA stays on top of checkpoint traffic flow
WE REFER to the editorial, "Something needs to be done about those Singapore-Johor Causeway jams" (BT, Jan 10).
The editorial rightly highlighted that traffic at the land checkpoints is highly fluid. Unlike air and sea checkpoints where traveller volume is subject to landing and berthing space, traffic volume at land checkpoints is subject to surges beyond our control.
Our land checkpoints are among the busiest in the world. On average, about 415,000 travellers use the land checkpoints daily and this number increases during the year-end. On the Friday before Christmas last year, ICA cleared 475,000 travellers across both checkpoints. This is the highest number ICA has cleared in a single day in recent years.
