Hiroshima 75 years on
KEIKO Ogura was a child during World War II. Her family lived in the centre of Hiroshima, but her father was worried for their safety as there was no bomb shelter nearby, so he bought a house on the fringe of the city and they moved there.
Mitsuo Kodama lived and went to school near the city centre. In the midst of war, children still studied, and Hiroshima had been spared the bombing that devastated Tokyo, Osaka and other large cities.
On the morning of Aug 6, 1945, the streets were busy with people on their way to work. Most children were already at school. A solitary US plane flew overhead and dropped a bomb, slightly off target, that exploded at 8.15 am.
