Local Legend
Lim Boon Keng (1868 - 1957) was one of the greatest Singaporeans who ever lived. A respected physician, he founded schools, championed education for girls and rallied public support for noble causes. Despite his good reputation, he was accused of being a spy and collaborator of the Japanese during World War II. Today he is the namesake for Boon Keng Road and Boon Keng MRT station. Playwright Stella Kon (of Emily Of Emerald Hill fame) has teamed up with producer and songwriter Desmond Moey to create Lim Boon Keng The Musical, charting the extraordinary life and times of Dr Lim. Directed by Jeremiah Choy (pictured), the musical is led by Sebastian Tan as Dr Lim, alongside well-known actors such as Audrey Luo and George Chan.
Lim Boon Keng The Musical runs at the Victoria Theatre from now till Oct 13. Tickets from Sistic.
