The annual race commemorates the gruelling escape of Colonel Spencer Chapman from the Japanese army during World War II, when he hid in the Malaysian jungle for three and a half years. He made his escape by swimming 45m out to sea at night, where he was rescued by a Royal Navy submarine. Participants run 3.8km on undulating roads, followed by a 2.4km rainforest trek and a 1km long open water swim, before a final sprint to the finish line at Chapman's Bar. Cocktails and a beach barbecue await. Prizes include bragging rights and a three night stay at the resort.
