Return Of The Piano Lady
World-renowned toy piano player and Cultural Medallion recipient Margaret Leng Tan returns to the stage for a one-night-only show, joyfully titled Toy Toy Toy! This most un-Singaporean of Singapore artists - once described by The New Yorker magazine as "the diva of avant-garde pianism" - will be making music out of all manner of toys and toy instruments. The classical pieces begin with Haydn's Toy Symphony and end with Stephen Montague's A Toy Symphony in celebration of his 75th birthday. In between, the sprightly septuagenarian will play works by John Cage, Philip Glass and Eric Satie. She will also play three works by contemporary composers Erik Griswold, Toby Twining and Michael Wookey, who had written the pieces just for her.
Toy Toy Toy! plays at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory concert hall on Friday, Sept 14 at 8.15pm. Tickets from Sistic.
