Groundbreaking Dance
As part of the M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival, festival director Kuik Swee Boon has programmed Binary - International Artists Showcase, a double-bill of outstanding works selected from the international sphere. The first is a collaboration of dancer and performance artist Shamel Pitts, co-performer Mirelle Martins and lighting and projection designer Lucca del Carlo, that looks at gender, race, love, friendship and identity.
The second piece (pictured) is by well-regarded dance-maker Astrid Boons, who has worked with renowned choreographers such as Ohad Naharin and Jiri Kylian. Boons has choreographed an austere, conceptual duet that attempts to remove the body of its humanness. The work received glowing reviews at previous festivals.
Binary - International Artists Showcase runs at the Esplanade Theatre Studio on Aug 3 - 4. Tickets from Sistic.
