Extreme Flowers
Supersized begonias are the main attraction at the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay, as the flower season kicks off. Begonias normally grow to about 5cm in diameter, but at the Dome, they'll be three times the size. They are the work of the Research and Horticulture team at Gardens by the Bay, which has managed to produce red, pink, orange and yellow blooms that measure between 13cm and 16cm in diameter.
Andrea Kee, deputy director of Research and Horticulture, says: "Supersized begonias take an enormous amount of care and effort to cultivate. As such, they're generally not easily available and are a rare sight for the public. The ongoing 'Begonia Brilliance' floral display is a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy stunning flowers, and marvel at how nature can be encouraged to blossom to wonderful depths under the careful nurturing of expert horticulturists."
Begonia Brilliance floral display is on till July 1 at Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay.
