Perfect 10
Bjork's 10th album Utopia is a gloriously lush soundscape which, even by her usually otherworldly standards, transports you to a transcendental paradise no other musician has conjured. Birds, robots, flutes, cymbals and other sounds familiar, odd and wondrous conspire to help you forget the world and escape instantly into Bjork's soft, loving cocoon.
By now Bjork has become such a mainstay of avant-garde music that many listeners take her for granted. "Oh, another weird album from Bjork," some might say dismissively. But Utopia stands out as one of the most cathartically dreamlike albums ever made, coming particularly at a time when there's so much to be cynical about in this world. Don't dismiss it.
Utopia is out in record stores and digital platforms.
