Bard Company
Touring Shakespeare company Shakespeare's Globe is back in Singapore. And this time you get to choose what you want to see. Specific to its two Saturday shows on Sept 22, the audience casts a vote on whether the company should stage The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night or The Taming of the Shrew. The play that gets the most number of votes will be promptly performed by the cast of eight. But if you prefer knowing exactly what you're going to watch, opt for the shows from Sept 18 to 21 instead, where the play for the evening has been chosen in advance.
The idea of 'audience choice' harks back to the days of the Bard when a small group of actors with an extensive repertoire travelled around England, stopping at the homes of the wealthy and offering to perform the play that the master or mistress of the house selected.
Shakespeare's Globe performs from Sept 18 to 21 at the SOTA Concert Hall. Tickets from Sistic.
