What's Up This Week
HERITAGE GOES ONLINE
For the first time in its 17-year history, the Singapore Heritage Festival has gone online, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. While it's had to scrap its popular tours to lesser known sites, it means that more people can "visit" these places, and for free. Running until Jul 5, it focuses on three areas - Tanjong Pagar, Pasir Ris and Kallang. Residents from these estates share stories about living there, and there are other little known nuggets of the past, such as how there used to be a Pasir Ris Hotel - a popular venue for parties - or that Kallang was nicknamed 'fire city', due to fears of explosion when the Kallang Gasworks was built. Besides virtual tours, there are also cooking demonstrations and workshops and virtual trails to go on. ~ Tay Suan Chiang
