Chairs For All
IKEA started to develop its OMTӒNKSAM (the Swedish word for care) range a few years ago, largely initiated by the world's growing ageing population. But rather than fixate on one particular demographic, the pieces are designed in collaboration with an ergonomics expert and physiotherapist, to fit users of all ages.
For example, the OMTÄNKSAM two-seat sofa has a high backrest that is angled for comfort, and has firm cushions and sturdy armrests that are great to lean on when getting up and sitting down. There's also a multi-cushion that can be folded or rolled up, and placed behind the back on under the heels to relieve pressure.
The range also includes mouth blown vases, that are shaped like an hourglass, so that they are easy to lift, carry and wash.
