Happy Birthday Billy

Billy who? A hot favourite from Ikea, Billy the bookcase turns 40 this year. Designer Gillis Lundgren named his fuss-free and timeless design after a colleague, Billy Liljedahl, who had expressed his wish for a "proper" bookcase. He's not the only one, either. Since its launch, Billy has made its way into millions of homes around the world.

For its 40th birthday, Ikea is launching Billy in bright yellow, on top of the usual black, white, and white stained oak veneer options. There are also those that come with glass doors. Billy also now comes with optional additions such as display shelves and bookends.

Billy, $129, is available from Ikea.
